PrincipalAmy Hudson has 20-plus years of internal and external communications experience with an emphasis on issues, particularly in health care and education. Since 2002, Amy has been principal of Gusto Communications LLC. The firm provides public relations and communications consulting services that include strategy and messaging, and writing of all kinds, from web copy to newsletters, brochures and reports. Prior to launching Gusto Communications, Amy held communications positions within several organizations. As public affairs manager for PacifiCare of Colorado, Amy managed the health care company’s public relations programs, from strategy development to implementation. Amy served for three years as assistant director of public information for Denver Public Schools. In this capacity she interacted with print, TV and radio media on a regular basis, developed district messaging and produced numerous internal and external publications.
In her previous career as a journalist, Amy was editor of a national higher education news syndicate and wrote for community and daily newspapers. She spent three years covering prep and community sports for The Denver Post. Amy has a Bachelor of Science degree in journalism from the University of Colorado at Boulder.
Amy likes to spend her spare time with her husband and three children. Most weekends, she’s cheering at youth baseball, basketball or soccer games. In between, she likes to run, cycle, camp and read. Amy can be contacted at email@example.com.
Communications SpecialistSusanna Donato has been writing, editing and consulting for public relations and marketing clients for more than 20 years, with an emphasis on clients in the health care, nonprofit and financial services sectors.
She teamed with Gusto starting in 2010 as the key writer for an internal communications team serving Catholic Health Initiatives, a national nonprofit hospital organization. She worked closely with physician and clinical staff, technology staff and executives to write content for websites, newsletters, case studies, scripts, slide decks, talking points, FAQs and more, supporting CHI’s conversion to an electronic medical record.
She also has written for the custom trade magazines Physicians Practice Digest and Humana’s YourPractice; worked with pharmacy and medical technology companies; and written and coordinated member and legislative communications materials for what was then Colorado’s largest HMO’s commercial and Medicare products.
She began her career at JohnstonWells Public Relations, where she worked for a year as the firm’s staff editor and coach. She also has worked in marketing at The French Culinary Institute (now the International Culinary Center) in New York City, where she collaborated with well-known chefs such as Jacques Pépin and publicized initiatives via national media organizations. She is astute in social media and sold her green/frugal living blog, Cheap Like Me, in 2012 after creating and expanding it for nearly five years.
Susanna attended Barnard College of Columbia University for two years and received her Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from the University of Colorado. She is a former board member and diversity committee chair for the Logan School for Creative Learning, and she’s a member of the Lighthouse Writers Workshop 2013-2015 Book Project.
In her free time, she enjoys creative writing, knitting, cooking and spending time with her husband and teenage daughter.
Graphic DesignerJennifer Beam has been producing effective, engaging graphic design for marketing and communications -- with many clients in the health care industry -- for 15+ years.
She began her career designing and producing marketing materials for national pharmaceutical product launches. After moving to Colorado in the late 1990s, she freelanced for several years before being recruited as an on-staff graphic designer at Children’s Hospital Colorado, a nationally ranked pediatric hospital.
At Children’s, she designed and coordinated production for marketing brochures, bilingual patient education materials, conference booths, hospital-published magazines, training materials, physician relations campaigns, direct mail pieces and e-graphics for numerous web applications. During more than 10 years at Children’s Colorado, the hospital changed its logo, moved to a new medical campus and changed its name to reflect its growing national and global reputation. Despite these challenges to maintaining a dynamic, consistent visual image, many pieces from Jenn’s portfolio received regional and national design awards.
Since early 2012, Jenn has been working as a freelance designer, offering a wide range of design services including:
- Custom-designed marketing, packaging and educational materials.
- Custom-designed artwork for e-newsletters, blogs, and Facebook or Twitter accounts.
- Development of user-friendly templates to produce routine materials in-house for newsletters, PowerPoint presentations and consumer informational materials.
- Custom-designed conference materials—booth graphics, display banners, handouts and giveaway items.
In her free time, Jenn enjoys chasing after her two young children, snow skiing and fine art painting.
